I have a 2004 Ford Explorer XLS 4.0 SOHC with a 5R55S transmission. Usually with fault code P0775 transmission shift shock will be felt. I've searched and read many threads related to P0775 (Pressure Control Solenoid B) and shifting problems, but felt it would be helpful to post anyways as my situation does not seem as severe as those I read, and only involves this single code at this point. The possible causes of fault code P0775 are: Low transmission fluid level, dirty transmission fluid, a faulty line pressure solenoid ‘B’, a line pressure solenoid ‘B’ harness that is open or shorted or a line pressure solenoid ‘B’ circuit that has a poor electrical connection. As current flow is increased, the magnetic field produced by the coil moves the solenoid plunger further away from the exhaust port, opening the exhaust port, which decreases the output fluid pressure regulated by the PC solenoid valve which ultimately decreases line pressure. The Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid Valve is an electronic pressure regulator that controls transmission line pressure based on current flow through its coil windings. The shafts for the servos are hardened (very hard!) steel going through a machined aluminum bore in the transmission case (brilliant design!). The pistons have seals that allow pressure to build up between the sealed servo cover and the piston. There is a port in the transmission bore for each that feeds fluid into a cross bore in the servo shaft and up through a counter bore in the shaft to the back side of the piston of each. Results of our survey confirm there are still going to be issues that are misdiagnosed. The engine will red-line and not shift unless you let up on the accelerator. Transmission will not shift out of 1st gear into 2nd.Transmission will shift fine when it is cold but then will exhibit shifting issues after it warms up.It will shift out of OD after any sign of load especially after the transmission warms up. Eventually the transmission will not shift back into OD unless you were going down an incline.
