Quicken spell 2 sorcery points9/12/2023 ![]() If they don't have the right Invocations, yes we can agree it's just getting an extra Eldritch Blast so what you quicken often doesn't matter. If a friend does the Spiked Growth and you quick two Eldritch Blasts to push them around with these Invocations, you can rack up a lot of damage from the forced movement in a single turn before they can escape the area. Some spells activate when the target enters the area or moves within it (like Spiked Growth), so having the spell cast and then blasting enemies into it does instant damage they can't avoid. So you can move one enemy that would otherwise not be in the blast radius of Fireball, or the CC range of Hypnotic Pattern into it before casting the spell. But as was pointed out earlier by another user, Repelling Blast/Grasp of Hadar lets you move one enemy before or after doing the quickened spell before they have time to move. I think you were getting at the idea that this is what's equal about it regardless of what spell was actually quickened the result is still 2 spells, one of which is Eldritch Blast most likely. The only thing equal is you got to do an extra Eldritch Blast in the same turn. Quickening an Eldritch Blast would be Xd10+X damage, a Quickened Fireball would be a blast area of 8d6 fire damage. If you can convince your DM to allow it, a single cantrip could actually Prone 4 targets within 30 ft range. ![]() The RAI would hinge on if a spell that targets three or more also targets two creatures and logically I would say that is so. Reaper doesn't say "second target" but it does say "two creatures". Sapping Sting still qualifies as the normal version is single target. Next we apply Reaper says "casts a necromancy cantrip that normally targets only one creature, the spell can instead target two creatures within range and within 5 feet of each other." which is different phrasing. What's more, I think that by RAW, Reaper would stack with Twin metamagic! If we apply Twinned first the relevant text is "targets only one creature and doesn’t have a range of self, you can spend a number of sorcery points equal to the spell’s level to target a second creature." so Sapping Sting qualifies. This would also give Reaper sub class ability which is like a free Twin if two targets are adjacent. To make it RAW legal, how about Death Cleric 1 to get Sapping Sting then Aberrant Mind Sorc for HoH and metamagic? Might need DM to hand hand waive getting Sapping Sting on a character that can get Hunger of Hadar or else some interesting multiclass fun. The idea is that you can knock one or more targets prone with the area of effect so that they spend half movement to get up (30>15) and can only move 5 ft (15/2 is 7.5). I started looking for other spells with this same level of synergy and I came up with Twinned Sapping Sting paired with Quickened Hunger of Hadar.
